But a few hours up the road lie the Mayan Ruins that are right on the Mayan Riviera, known as Tulum. Located right on the Caribbean coastline, you’re looking at a pre-Columbian ancient Mayan city set up like a fortress surrounded by walls protecting it from outside invaders.

As you go and visit by taking the shuttle from the parking lot to the site’s entrance, the most famous structures remaining standing now are the Temple of the Frescoes and another called El Castillo, which translates means The Castle. And last but not least, it would be the Temple of the Descending God.

There is a constant supply of tour buses leaving Cancun resort or booking directly through Vacancy Rewards, so there is no need to rent a car unless you wish to explore on your own.

These ruins date back to AD 564, located in the state of Quintana Roo.
